AROUND KINGSWEAR

with glorious warm weather giving us the opportunity to swan about in summer clothes, eating great picnics and drinking indus- trial quantities

of wine. Mike Trevorrow gave an historic commentary on the way up the river as far as Bow Creek. Some people were fascinated by the history of the river, some had to be woken up at Stoke Gabriel! Thanks for the memorable event are due to the Steam

Preservation society which restored the lovely boat, to the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Boat Co, or whatever it is they are calling themselves this year! To Jonathan Hawkins for setting-up the event, to Mike Goodearl who designed the colourful posters and tickets, to the councillors who were involved in getting the event staged and to the post office and shop which did their usual, but much-valued, job of selling the tickets.

WI..CKED TIME The WI ladies have been off on another jolly, and why not.

They invaded Saltram House near Plymouth in June where the cream teas were so generous that they had to bring half home for later. There was an interesting tour of the house and time spent in the delightful art gallery next to it. Later in June those same ladies served the village

community at Kingswear Regatta with splendid cakes and scones and biscuits. Tea and coffee flowed all day and trade was decidedly brisk. Once again, thank you ladies for your splendid service and for over-coming the trials of serving food and drink in a field. On 21st August the ladies are at it again, but this time their

own garden party, where yet another cream tea will bite the dust and games will be undertaken in hopefully glorious sun- shine. But not all is play for our ladies because, in the months from now up to the Christmas Craft Fair on November 23rd, they will be beavering away making the splendid craft things that we swan in and buy just before Christmas. Please note that date in your diaries – Saturday November

23rd – I’ll give you the times in the October edition of By the Dart, hopefully.

vacant for rent due to back word by a prospective tenant so if you have need of an excellent room for an office or similar please contact barrie Tulloch on 01803 752834.
