VOLGA-DNEPR AIRLINES PASSES EU ETS COMPLIANCE AUDIT

ETS Verifi cation GmbH, one of the EU’s leading Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) compliance experts, has confi rmed Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ full compliance with the requirements of the European Commission’s scheme following an extensive audit of its business.

The EU introduced the greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and reporting system for the aviation industry in 2010, purporting to cover all air carriers operating to/from EU territories. Based on emissions reports for 2010, the EU allocated free CO2 allowances for carriers for the period from 2012 to 2020. Those carriers which exceed their allowances would have to buy additional emissions certifi cates from the market. EU regulations contemplate that restrictions to fl y to EU countries may be imposed on non- compliant carriers. The emissions monitoring and reporting system was implemented in Volga-Dnepr Airlines in 2010.
