VOLGA-DNEPR GOES BACK INTO SPACE WITH LATEST SATELLITE DELIVERY TO BAIKONUR

Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ importance as a carrier of choice for the aerospace industry has been highlighted once again with the delivery of approximately 80,000 kilos of space satellite and launch support equipment to Kazakhstan.

Globally, one in three of all space satellites are transported to their launch site by Volga-Dnepr due to the airline’s proven expertise in safely delivering

such highly sensitive and valuable cargoes and the unique air logistics capabilities of its An-124-100 ‘Ruslan’ freighter fl eet.

On arrival in Yubileyny, the satellite container was carefully transferred to a rail wagon to be transported to the clean room at Baikonur, where the satellite was unloaded from its container for the launch.

Matthew Thear, Customer Service Manager at Volga-Dnepr, said: “Over many years we have built a strong reputation with manufacturers, space agencies and logistics specialists for our ability to safely move space satellites and related equipment to launch sites around the world. This is a very specialist process that requires detailed planning as well as strict loading, unloading and environmental conditions to protect the shipment all the way to the launch site.”

VOLGA-DNEPR WINS TWO TOP PRIZES IN ANNUAL ‘WINGS OF RUSSIA’ NATIONAL AVIATION AWARDS

Volga-Dnepr Group has won the top prizes in two categories of the annual Wings of Russia National Aviation Awards, presented at a ceremony in Moscow attended by leading airline industry executives.

Volga-Dnepr Group received the award for the Best Business Project in Russian Civil Aviation in 2012, while Volga-Dnepr Airlines was named ‘Airline of the Year - Cargo Carrier on Domestic and International Routes’. This is the seventh

time the airline has been honoured with this award and, for 2012, saw it take the main prize ahead of six other nominees.

“It is a special honour for the Volga- Dnepr team to be recognised twice in these important Wings of Russia National Aviation Awards. 2012 was not an easy year for the airline industry and we have needed to apply maximum effort to retain our leading positions in the market,” said Valery Gabriel (pictured with the award), Vice President of Volga-Dnepr Group.

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has previously won this award category in Russia’s prestigious annual aviation awards in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2006 and 2007, while AirBridgeCargo Airlines, the Group’s scheduled cargo airline business, is a four-time winner of the Airline of the Year award.
