MINING DRILL MOVES TO MAGADAN AS PART OF 100 TON SHIPMENT
‘FLYING BOATS’ TOUCH DOWN IN TANZANIA
Two cutter vessels became ‘fl ying boats’ when they were carried from Aquaba in Jordan to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, by Volga-Dnepr Airlines.
Volga-Dnepr has extensive experience of transporting boats and submersibles around the world, including yachts, submarines and patrol boats. The nature of these cargoes often requires detailed planning, engineering and the use of special handling and loading equipment. On this latest occasion, the use of standard loading cranes was not possible because of the cutters’ size. Instead, Volga-Dnepr’s load planning experts used a rail system to safely place the Amie and Bridie boats into the aircraft’s cargo hold.
Each boat weighed 14 tons and was more than 13 metres long and four metres high. The fl ight to Tanzania was on behalf of the global air charter
specialists, Chapman Freeborn. Vikas Chaturvedi, Chapman Freeborn’s Project Manager in Dubai, said: “The moment we received this enquiry, we turned to Volga-Dnepr Airlines for their support. As an award winning charter broker, we only work with partners we can fully trust and rely on. We applaud Volga- Dnepr and their professional team for their support in handling such sensitive cargo and for their seamless planning and execution of the delivery.”
A self-propelled Bauer BG28 drill used for mining was part of a 100-ton shipment delivered by Volga-Dnepr Airlines to Magadan in Russia.
