Seaside Estate, located on the Mayan Riviera between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. This boutique 29-room resort features the region’s most authentic, organic Mayan spa. Offering an array of treatment rituals for face and body, the spa incorporates


indigenous organic


fruits, herbs and plants, many selected from the spa’s very own herb garden located in the grounds. The 2500 square foot spa features 5 treatment rooms, 4 of which are designed for couples and have an adjoining Jacuzzi. You can choose either an open room with natural air flow or an air-conditioned room. Before any spa treatment you can also experience the steam room scented with aromatic herbs to open the airways and warm the muscles.


The spa was constructed using a local material made of Chukum tree bark mixed with limestone from the region.

This dries to a beautiful mottled light brown finish and keeps the spa cool throughout the summer months, despite the heat outside. The roughly circular design of the spa and the layout of the rooms and curved walls prevent


sound from carrying and


ensure the feeling of peace, quiet and seclusion even when the spa is fully booked.


Much of the furniture within the spa is fashioned from the wood of the trees cut down from the site of the spa, maintaining the natural ambience and minimizing the need for metal and glass.

their hand selecting


guests’ the


herbs, spices, elixirs and essences that are included in the ritual. These can be included in a ‘pindus’, a cloth wrapped herbal ball compress that is steamed and used to massage the body.


The spa menu focuses on the local Mayan healing traditions and each treatment begins with a ritual cleansing using copal, a smoking aromatic tree resin to cleanse the soul and remove negative energy from both the guest and the therapist.


One of their most notable treatments on offer is the couple’s ritual, Esencia de Amor, including an exfoliation with fresh strawberries, honey and brown sugar. This is followed by a relaxing massage using coconut and almond oil fragranced with jasmine, sandalwood and rose essential oils. The ritual concludes with a private Jacuzzi where you can indulge in champagne and chocolate


covered strawberries. The
