First Global Wellness Tourism Congress Slated for October 5
The Global Spa & Wellness Summit announced that the inaugural Global Wellness Tourism Congress would take place on the first day of the Summit, Saturday, October 5. The Congress will bring together ministers of tourism and industry VIPs who will gather at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, in New Delhi, India, to discuss and shape this rapidly emerging travel category.
The full-day agenda will include the presentation of case studies illustrating national wellness tourism campaigns and a wellness tourism forum, along with findings from a new SRI International* research report, the first to analyze the scope of, and predicted future growth for, the global wellness tourism sector.

SpaFinder Wellness released its sixth annual "State of Spa Travel” report, a yearly window into the health of, and emerging consumer trends in the spa travel market.
“While the upswing in spa travel is being driven
by the wider economic rebound, the survey clearly indicates that other factors are at play,” said Susie Ellis, president, SpaFinder Wellness Inc. “With more than two-thirds of agents reporting that people are now more interested in traveling to spas specifically for programs like stress-reduction, fitness, and weight loss, the results are a clear indication that more travelers are deciding they simply can’t afford exhausting, unhealthy vacations.”
68% of agents reported growth in 2012 spa bookings, up from 37% in 2011; Mexico/ Caribbean unseats North America as top global spa travel destination; average price-per-night- booked rises significantly.
