to the streets of Brixham on a ghost walk ably led by David Satchwill. However this will be followed by a three course meal at the beautifully situated Crab Quay House restaurant.

KINGSWEAR REGATTA Brace yourselves because Kingswear Regatta is hitting the

village early this year – on 29th and 30th June. ‘JUNE’ did you say? I did. This is to take advantage of tide times that will allow rowing from 9:30am to 2:00pm on both days. This year will have two lovely long sunny days (pre-booked) when you can watch the action on the water and also enjoy the usual fun and games on shore. The dog show on Saturday is always a well-supported

event (not to mention a good laugh - even the dogs are funny too) and of course there will be lots of stalls, food and the bar, which proves popular. Do put the date in your diary and start saving your pennies so you can spend lots and lots of money to support this year’s charities. There is discussion underway as to which these shall be. Remember Saturday and Sunday June 29th and 30th.

JONES THE FOOT-SLOG A great deal has already been said about David Jones’ epic

South West Way walk in December in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association in which David raised over £5,000, and he has been rightly praised and admired for undertaking such a gruelling event at such an inclement time of year. However I just thought I’d include a picture of David as he came down on to Blackpool Sands about a week before the finish, and i wanted to congratulate David personally for a very considerable achievement. Well done that man, you’d better get eating to put back the pounds lost to nature.

concrete crushers and pile drivers that is! Let’s hope all goes well with the repairs, although I will miss the new beach when it’s concreted over.

CEMETERY LODGE Some of you may have noticed that there has been

scaffolding up the front of the lodge for the past week or two. It is there to enable work on the roof gable to be carried out. There were leaks discovered in each of the gullies at the side of the gable and these have been replaced with new. While the scaffolding is up a little painting will take place.

DOG FOULING It’s back, it’s nasty, it’s our own dogs’ and nobody can blame

visitors’ dogs at this time of the year folks. Several people have complained to me (as councillor, not By the Dart scrib- bler) about the amount of dog mess on the streets, alongside the creek and along the railway footpath. I don’t know why it’s got worse, perhaps people have just got complacent or lazy, but wise up please dog owners and clean-up after your dogs. A fairly recent phenomenon is the hanging of bags con- taining the offending matter on gates or on branches of trees. THIS IS GROSS in the extreme so PLEASE don’t do it. What do you think is going to happen to it? Please remember that the maximum fine for this offence – and it is an offence – is £1,000. Surely we don’t have to go down that route.•
