DART MUSIC FESTIVAL NEWS - 2013 line-up

and are bursting to share it with you! We’ve just had confirmation that the wonderful Ruby Turner – who wowed one and all with her fantastic performance two years ago – is returning this year with her headline act on the Bandstand, and quite frankly we can’t wait. If you missed her last time, you’re

T

in for a very special treat as Ruby is indeed one very special lady. For those of you who didn’t catch her on ‘Later With Jools Holland’ at New Year, you can find out just how brilliant the lady is by visiting her website: www.rubyturner.com . The site doesn’t have the strapline ‘Ruby Turner – soulful music’s most special talent’ for nothing - when you come along to the Bandstand, you’ll see what we mean. Oh, and by the way, this is what The Guardian has to say about her: “Soul, Gospel, and R&B: Ruby Turner is truly the genuine article. Blessed with a voice that can breathe life and meaning into any song, whether it be a passionate ballad or a fast groove”. On hearing the news, those nice folk at the Compass

office Shop literally jumped for joy (yes, honestly – you had to be there…) - in fact, Simon Geen was heard to remark - and I quote – “I’ve been enjoying the Music Festival for ten years now, and I have to tell you that Ruby Turner’s performance of ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’ was the best thing I have ever seen and heard!” Enough said? Aren’t we the lucky ones? As if all this wasn’t exciting enough, we are also thrilled to

welcome back the energetic, endearing and hugely enjoyable RSVP Bhangra Band, who gave us all such a good time last year teaching us to ‘start a motorbike’ and ‘screw in a light bulb’ etc. to music. Trust me, there will be a lot of happy danc- ers in the Royal Avenue Gardens again this year when the irrepressible Bhangras are entertaining. bands and artists are still being confirmed but we’re delighted to announce the following stunning acts: Zum (‘an acoustic meltdown… a cultural alchemy… Where the World’s music collides…’) 24 Pesos (‘The UK’s most exciting and original Blues band’

– Maverick Magazine) Grupo Lokito (‘Truly unique in the UK with their fusion of contemporary Congolese and Latin Music’.) To name but a few… For further details of the 2013 line- up please check the website over the next few weeks – and

he Dart Music Festival committee simply cannot contain their excitement

don’t forget you’ll also be able to download a copy of the programme in due course. Our website address is: www.dartmusic- festival.co.uk sponsors As I am sure you realise, the costs

for putting on the Festival rise annually and despite our vigorous fund-raising efforts throughout the year we find that not only do we rely on the generosity of visitors, but we are indebted to the local business community and individuals who give so much.

It may sound like a cliché but we really couldn’t do it without their continuing help and support. Although there are many advantages for all our sponsors, depending upon the level at which they decide to sponsor us, surely the most important –and hopefully rewarding – benefit must be knowing that only with their

help are we once again able put on one of Dartmouth’s best- loved festivals. All support – large or small - is very much appreciated, and many of our valued sponsors tell us they are proud to be involved in such a prestigious and popular event. Please do contact us if you would like more information on joining the band of DMF Sponsors, or sponsoring a particular band or event - or even supporting the Festival ‘in kind’ by giving your time or services. We are also introducing a ‘Digs list’ this year – a bright idea suggested to help with accommodation required by various musicians over the Festival weekend. As you know, the B&Bs and hotels are usually fully booked months ahead for this very special weekend in town, so finding accommodation for non-local performers can be difficult, if not impossible. if you feel able to offer accommodation for a night for a small recompense, we would love to hear from you. Thank you. Please e mail lyon@eclipse.co.uk or telephone 01803
