D.C.M. London Gazette 17 April 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations. By his resource and total disregard of personal danger, he was able to maintain telephone communication intact. On one occasion he attacked, single-handed, six of the enemy.’

Percy Wearn came from Brockenhurst, Hampshire. As a Private in the Wiltshire Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 July 1915. Entitled to the 1914-15 Star.


His m.i.c. records that his D.C.M. was found by a member of the public in April 1928 and that the D.C.M. was re-issued in September 1929.


Some characters on the erased D.C.M. can be discerned indicating that the medal was originally awarded to a member of the Machine Gun Corps.
