Thomas Ogden was born in the Parish of Pilkington, Lancashire and enlisted into the Royal Fusiliers at Manchester on 20 January 1825, aged 18 years. He served overseas in the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the West Indies. He was discharged on 30 June 1847. The Long Service medal was his only medallic award. With copied discharge papers.

With the regiment he served in the East Indies, March 1857-March 1864; Mediterranean, February 1868-December 1876, and with the China command, December 1876-January 1880. He was discharged on 5 April 1882. He was awarded the Long Service medal in 1880 and was in possession of four Good Conduct Badges. With copied service papers.
