Art Inspired By The Dart Part 1
“Warfleet, into the Cove” Chris Forsey RI
“T
he short ferry ride to Dartmouth
Castle provided the inspi- ration for my painting of Warfleet Cove. It was a beautiful, warm afternoon in early October, the sun was getting low in the sky and cast everything in warm colours. However it was the backlit view as the ferry chugged past Warfleet that caught my eye. The wooded hillsides receded in silhouette against each other and bobbing yachts anchored at the cove entrance pro-
vided simplified shapes on the sparkling outgoing tide. The air was slightly misty and added to the early Autumn atmosphere. I quickly grabbed my sketchbook and cameras and doodled and snapped as we passed by. The painting is an amalgam of various views and fleeting sights as the ferry took me to the castle.” Chris’ painting can be seen at D’Art Gallery, 4 Lower Street, Dartmouth 01803 834923

“The Quay” John Gillo
“T
his is a new giclee image used to great effect as the cover of By The Dart
magazine this month. Giclee printing is a stunning new printmaking process developed as a result of modern computer technology. ‘Giclee’ (from the French to spray) accurately describes this process in which a million droplets of ink per second are applied to the paper through four nozzles at a perceived resolution of 1850 dots per inch. Our giclee prints are all printed on Somerset Velvet radiant white artists waterclour paper, or German Etching paper and are all printed using lightfast inks.”
