e have had an interesting couple of months in the property industry, locally. The market conditions have been difficult for some years now with price reductions a common sight. Charles Head and Son, Dartmouth office has closed and their stock and Bob Hollies have joined me in my office, so it’s all very cosy. It is half - term as I write, thank goodness, as things are a lot, lot busier. Those properties that are correctly priced are gaining interest and offers and we have achieved a number of sales over the past week. It is amazing what a bit of good weather will do although there are severe gales and driving rain outside at the moment.
Dartmouth continues to get an excellent press, both in the national newspapers and on the television, I was amazed to see the number of people, watching the flotilla sail up the Dart on the Monday of the Jubilee Weekend. It was as busy as
a regatta weekend. The more people who see our lovely town, the more they want a home here which is hopefully good news for all the town’s traders and home owners looking to move. There is plenty more to look forward to with the J80 World Championships coming up shortly and the Tour of Britain cycling event in the late Summer. These events will again give the town fantastic coverage.
So what do we need in order for market conditions to get on an even keel? Well firstly the situation in the Euro-zone has to be sorted and sorted quickly. There is nothing worse for a market than uncertainty. We also need the banks to have enough confidence to lend, especially to all those first time buyers who are key to the market. So it is over to the politicians and bankers again. Never mind.
