New, Exclusive Member Benefits Available Trough Colonial Life

The Greater Houston Builders Association is pleased to announce we have partnered with Colonial Life to bring added value to your membership. Colonial is providing exclusive benefits to association members on both account eligibility size, improved industry rating for disability rates, and guaranteed issue exceptions on certain plans.

Colonial Life

Colonial Life is a 70 year old industry leader in worksite benefits—benefits that can help your employees better protect themselves and their family members from life’s unexpected turns. Colonial’s longevity in the marketplace coupled with extremely knowledgeable agents, some of which have been with Colonial for 30+ years, makes them the perfect choice for the GHBA. The lead agents for Colonial are Bob Humphrey and Nancy Simpson.

About the Agents

BOB HUMPHREY is no stranger to the GHBA or the insurance business. He has been with Colonial Life for 19 years, and has been active in the community even longer. He is a long time resident of Houston and a previous small business owner.

Bob is one agent who believes in what he sells; he carries the full line of Colonial Life products on himself and his family. Four years ago his wife, Linda, had a major stroke and was hospitalized for a while and later sent home faced with a hard recovery. Bob was able to take off work and help with the recovery of his wife without the worry of no income and the burden of the expenses to come. The Colonial Life products have helped his clients, ranging from the very small to the

very large groups all across Texas, each of them receiving the same service and the same access to great employee benefits.

Bob is also very active with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo serving on the Carnival Ticket Sales Committee and heading up a cook-off team for the last 17 years. He is also a vice president on the 189 Club, a buyers group named after the badge number of slain Houston Police Officer, Jim Irby. Bob, along with Colonial Life, has been able to provide a $15,000 scholarship for the past 10 years.

“Serving our community through the Rodeo Association is more a labor of love than real work," says Bob. "It is a privilege to be able to offer scholarships to area youth who might not otherwise be able to attend college and to help these young people attain the education and training they need to follow their dreams.”

NANCY SIMPSON brings to the group both experience and a background of service. Before becoming an insurance professional, she served as the director of casework for U.S. Congressman Jack Fields. In that role, she helped people resolve issues they had with federal agencies, as well as represent the congressman in the community. Nancy was extremely well respected among her peers as well as the constituents of the district. When Congressman Fields left public service, Nancy also decided to pursue other career opportunities. Because she had a strong interest in helping others, she chose the insurance industry as the best career for her.

“Insurance is there for when life happens… especially the unexpected life events. Insurance helps people recover from those events," says Nancy. "Helping

people understand how insurance helps is very gratifying. Knowing that I can educate them and provide them options and help them navigate through all the choices available is why I do what I do, which is simply helping people.”

Nancy recently moved to Austin, but still has strong ties to the Houston area. She hails from Baytown, where she served on the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Advisory Board, including serving a term as the board president. She and the other board members started the annual SBDC Monument Award program, which recognizes area businesses for their achievements. Helping small businesses grow and thrive is a passion for Nancy; she believes strongly that small businesses are the backbone of this country.

Her decision to join Colonial was fueled by that passion. Providing companies of any size the ability to offer valuable benefits to their employees helps the companies attract and retain employees thereby helping the company to grow and thrive, since the benefits are at no direct cost to the business owner.

Nancy now serves on the Legislative Committee and the Health Care Committee of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce as well as a Chamber Ambassador. Nancy is also active in her church, serving as Lay Leader at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Austin.

Bob and Nancy bring a variety of talents and expertise to this partnership. Members of the GHBA have the opportunity to participate in the Colonial partnership by offering benefits to their employees, and the association will benefit by having Colonial Life as a GHBA member and affinity partner.
