only kind of vibe I took is more of a Dancehall, Reggae vibe. So when you hear the flow “Traktor”, it’s sort of a Reggae-ish [he then performs the first two lines to illustrate]. It’s just a vibe, it’s not a specific artist, it’s a genre. I like Reggae, I like Ragga, I like Bashment. So I didn’t really take any inspiration from any specific artist, it’s more genres.
Kix: OK. Moving on, is there any song that you’d say you’d had a verse on? Wretch 32: Good question, man, There’s The Script’s one [sings the first line from “For the First Time”] I’d love to have a verse on that. That was sick. It’s a sick song.
art form gativity,”
Kix: Moving on further, what are your thoughts on the recent Road Rap up-rise? Wretch 32: I think everything has its cause, man. I think music’s music, at the end of the day. I respect what a lot of what them kinda rappers come with. I just respect what it represents – it represents the ability to come from absolutely nowhere, down and out and be able to express yourself to people that are in a similar
situation, and to people that have never been in that situation to make them understand where you’re coming from. Look at it as an art form – that’s what representing negativity, but why don’t you just take it as art, man. You watch a film and why don’t say ‘Why have they got that?’, ‘Why did they shoot him?’. You come out the cinema and say ‘That film was sick’. You understand that someone was being artistic, that was wrote, it’s not reality. Obviously, what they’re talking about is reality, but they’re not telling you to do the reality that they’re talking about. They’re just telling you about their reality. Just take it as art man.
Kix: Can you let us know what’s beyond “Traktor”? Wretch 32: What’s next? Music. Yeah, a bit of music. [laughs] I’m just cracking on, man. The album’s sounding good.
Kix: How long can we wait before we hear something new?
Wretch 32: I know the next single’s probably scheduled

for February/March – I wanna fill something out in-between that, something that’s not a single. I don’t ever wanna be known as the hit man. I wanna be known as the guy you listen to when you wanna hear someone say something, someone to touch you. I wanna throw something out there that’s not a single, something nice. Even if I have to pay for it myself, I’ll get it done.
Kix: How do you get your Kix? Wretch 32: When I make good music, man, when I make a good tune I feel it. Do you know the best part? When I play it to someone who ain’t heard it and they’re like “That’s sick”. That’s how I get my Kix.
