Some people like the drumming side, some like the production side, some like the song side of me. but it all leads to the same thing, it’s all me.
“This is a new phase for Breakbeat, I’ve learnt.”
Kix: As a musician that has already received some degree of
conviction is how I’ve always felt. Not guilty. I was convicted of sex- ual assault for allegations of grab- bing a girls behind. These girls said that I grabbed them and that’s nonsense. Obviously they had their arms round me and I had my arms round them, going up the stairs to the venue. As we got to the top, security was asking them to verify their names. When our tour manager came out he
I’m in The Sun news paper being accused and
convicted of sexual assault. I’ve learnt and grown since then. People may seem nice when they come around you but when they don’t get what they want, they turn nasty. I was someone who went through that whole process, and then I lost my father as well in that time. This is a new faze for Breakbeat, I’ve leanrt. But now I get why some artists don’t even talk to fans or they won’t be around them. But you only under- stand it when you go through it, otherwise it’s just someone saying something.
It’s one of these things, you live and you learn and I’m living and learning.
Kix: The alleged reasons behind it, would mean that nearly every man that has been in a club en- vironment could fall victim to this, do you think that it is somthing that men and potential targets, such as yourself should be wary of?
“fame”, you have already felt the downside to that with your recent court case, how do you feel about your conviction, and do you feel that it is down to the artists to change their behaviour or just to be more aware of situations and the potential pitfalls? Breakbeat: How I feel about the
turned them away from the after party because he stated they were mingers. They got upset and stormed off, went outside and called the police. The next thing I knew the police were arresting me. It went from one extreme to the next. One minute I’m in the club being hype, the next minute
Breakbeat: Men need to be aware that if you go to Scotland they’ve got a thing called Corpo- ration, that if two people say you did something, that’s enough to get a conviction. The main witness for my case was the security guy and he was never called to give evidence. So everyone needs to be careful if they go to Scotland,
and if your a blackman definitely. because police up there don’t like a brother, they never gonna like us brothers, cos we black.
Kix: How do you plan to move on from this negative publicity and how have your fans reacted?
Breakbeat: I’m just gonna make my music, maintaining the fan base, keeping it current and new. I’ve been keeping my fans updated and they support me. There are some people out there who like to twist things, because I’m that guy. I do what I do. I’m on stage in venues, arenas, then I’ll be on road promoting mixtapes/ flyering and they’re not. They wanna be me, that’s just how it is. Not everyone’s gonna make a mark. That’s how it is. It’s a con- stant race, we made it through the sperm phase, now we’re in the hu- man phase and we’re still running to get somewhere.
Kix: You have a great new song “Standing Tall”, which has a great message that we’re sure people from any background can relate to, is this the type of music you try to produce? Breakbeat: Yeah, I think people like my music because it’s always a constant lift, no matter what genre, every song of mine has content, it’s saying something. It’s me trying to get the message out there, that if you don’t think it can
