always there just adding good vibes. He’s pretty cool, man. He’s funny as well. A lot of his tweets on the [“No. 5
Collaboration Project”] EP were really funny.
Kix: OK. Moving on, there’s a broad spectrum of influences in your music, but obviously Rap and Grime went a lot into it. If you hadn’t had the opportunity to work with all these [top names] would you have gone down that route anyway? Ed: I kind of always wanted to, but I never was presented with the opportunity. When the SBTV thing happened, it was kind of a blessing in disguise. It was nice to happen, but I always wanted to go down that route at some time, because I’ve always had love for that sort of music. If you were to look on my iPod, it’s pretty much only UK urban music, American Hip Hop and Folk music. That’s pretty much it. [It’s] quite a mad iPod.
Kix: To anyone who doesn’t really know much about Folk (and has been introduce to it through your music), what would you recommend?
Ed: Well most people would have heard of Van Morrison, but he has an album called “Irish Heartbeat”, which he did
Ed: It was really towards the end of last year: October, November, December [when they] started showing interest.
– we’ve seen a lot of clips from behind the scenes of the Devlin, Yasmin and Example tour, are there any tour tales you’d like to let us in on? Ed: Not that I’d be allowed to say, no [laughs]. There was obviously lots of mad stuff that happened on tour, but it’s all part of the learning curve. It was a fun tour though. It was so nice getting to hang with Devlin, Yasmin and Example for three weeks and I got to get close to them. I met all of Devlin’s team and all of Yasmin’s mates in Glasgow and had some wicked times with Example and the team. It was a very, very nice two weeks. [pauses] Three weeks. [pauses] It was a long time [laughs].
with a band called The Chieftans. [It has] some of his own songs and some traditional Irish songs with one of Ireland’s biggest traditional bands. That’s an amazing record. That’ll be something to check out.
Kix: The Atlantic deal – how did that come together? Has it taken some time to happen?
They offered the deal before Christmas and so obviously, with all the madness on the charting, other offers came in. I felt obliged to say loyal to them, because they were the ones that were interested when no one else was. And I know they see the vision.
Kix: Alright, so moving on
Kix: “Nando’s Skank” – any comments? Ed: It’s done what it’s done. We did not rehearse it at all. That was about ten minutes after meeting [Example], as well, and like I literally just walked in and we started vibing and did that song. It’s almost on half a million hits on YouTube. That’s alright for something that was just a joke, but it’s cool.
Kix: Nice. Moving on to the 2 3 F eb 2 0 1 1 K i x Ma g
