Kiss my Beats while I Stand Tall

Kix Mag: Breakbeat welcome to Kix Mag, firstly I’ve noticed on twitter alot of people asking you to explain the meaning behind your name, especially the UKSP, let us know what the meaning is.... Breakbeat: UKSP is a movement that I started 6-7 years ago. We used to be a group where there was another singer and rapper. We was basically gigging, getting a following then things just fell apart. So I continued on Breakbeat and kept the UKSP. So all the fans who were apart of the United Kingdom Soul Project could follow on with my move- ment. UKSP is about a collective of people that are all about a posi- tive team making a change.

Kix: You are an artist that has many strings to your bow, with singing rapping, producing, songwriting aswell as playing the drums, and you have worked with some of the biggest names with their tours and shows. Was it always your plan to become involved in this industry and gain experience whilst launching yourself as an artist? Breatbeat: No I think it happened bit by bit, obviously I started playing drums and my dad was a bass player. So I’ve always been in the industry, as I started playing at different Jam sessions. As I went on, I learnt more skills. Just one of those things, as you do something

more and more you aquire different skills. Then I started producing and my dad was always into sequencing and producing records and things just grew from there really. I’ve learnt now how to put records out there. First of all I started selling mixtapes, promo. Then at gigs, on road flyering all them sort of things. And it’s just grown from there. And obviously the internet has played a big part as I’ve been doing it. I used to wear alot of other peoples brands, and I thought I’ve got my own brand, so why not wear that.

Kix: Do you get a lot of support from the other artists you have worked with about your own career or do you find people unwilling to support other artist/ potential competition? Breakbeat: With me personally I’m not gonna lie. When I was around at first they see me as that wicked guy who plays drums, but they don’t want that other part of me to shine, but I just like to always separate the two. Me drumming for people is something that I started doing, because I came in doing that, alot of people know me for that. And there’s also a new following that I have now, that follow the music I put out. So it’s kinda like combining it, and as I’m growing and developing, peo- ple are finding out different things.
