The HIVE can obtain Garrison Guides and HIVE ’Welcome Packs” from other stations. We also have a comprehensive Get You Back Pack which gives you a check list for leaving BFG and a checklist on arrival at your new posting.


QUESTIONS


The HIVE will endeavour to answer all your questions. You will not leave the HIVE empty handed. We will either give you the information that you require, a phone number for you to contact, refer you to another agency or a promise that we will get back to you if we do not have the information you are after.


RECYCLING


Germany is a huge advocate of recycling. Each Quarter will be issued with a number of different refuse bins and waste must be split up appropriately, otherwise they won’t be collected or a fine can be issued. Usually waste is split between:


Plastic & Metal – Yellow Bags only Paper & Card Biodegradable Waste – peelings, food and grass etc. Other – Nappies, mixed waste etc


Bins are usually collected on a rota-basis. Your local HIVE or your Estate Manager can help with details of what is collected and when. There will be local facilities for bulk waste and recycling. Drinks bottles can be returned to the shop you bought them from for a PFAND (deposit) payment. Machines are normally located in the drinks sections of Supermarkets or sometimes at the till point. Wine bottles are recycled in Bottle banks, the same as the UK. The HIVE or your Estate Manager can issue the Yellow Bags used for the recycling of plastic and metal.


RESTAURANTS


Eating out in Germany is a popular pastime. Meals out are generally cheaper than in the UK and children and dogs are usually made most welcome. Most restaurants will either have English/German menus or the staff will speak some English. Going out for Breakfast or for afternoon Coffee and Cake in Germany is very popular and a great way to experience the differences in culture. Tipping- do not leave a cash Tip on the table – give any tip you wish to leave to the waiter/ress. The amount is up to you and usually not more than 5-10%.
