DRIVING IN GERMANY BFG office: 05254 982 2638 Mil: 79 2638 RMP’s 05254 982 2223 / 2293

Please refer to the BFG Office for Driving/Road Regulations, headlight, child seat and emission laws. All drivers are required to complete a Matrix Test for Driving in Germany within 30 days of arrival.

Children under 12 are not allowed to ride in the front seat of a car and must use car seats. German law requires that all automobiles have a portable red reflective triangle , high visibility vest and first aid kit in their boot. If a car is stopped for any reason, the triangle must be placed 200 meters behind it, if on the Autobahn and 100 meters behind it on all other roads. Please ensure you know what to do if you are involved in an accident.

It is advisable to carry your vehicle documents with you in case you get stopped by the Police inc your driving licence, certificate of insurance, green card, BFG permit & fuel card. Child safety seats and changing facilities, children up to the age of 12 or any children under 1.5m in height travelling in a motor vehicle in Germany are required by law to be fastened in a child seat, or at least to have a booster cushion. On request most taxi’s can provide suitable seating for children. Infant changing facilities (Wickelraum) are widely available at motorway service stations and in most main department stores.
