Dodge Rodeo Cowboys/Girls Kick Off Despite Bad Weather

Cowboys/Girls, travelled to Dorchester for the kick off of the June 12th and 13th Dodge Rodeo Tour despite the forecast of a full week of rain. Saturday morning proved the weatherman right and despite this, the stands filled to 75% capacity and the cowboys played on. Even an overcast and rainy Sunday, did not dissuade a full house of committed fans.

boys called their fellow cowboys on the road to tell them about these new bulls from Arkansas.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TODD AND KELLY - Just before the Steer Wrestling, Todd Hunter proposed to Kelly who, after accepting, got up and put a run together.

There were many new exciting things at the Rodeo for 2010. System Fencing provided state of the art galva- nized steel fencing for a new rodeo arena. Dorchester Fairgrounds made sure there was tremendous footing and Boss Equipment supplied Koyoti machines to groom the arena with the equipment from HFH. So, despite severe rain all week, the arena was in great shape. The cowboys would like to thank the The Canadian Cowboys Association for providing the best level of judging possible. The CCA sent 2 top judges to judge the rodeo and put on a weekend judging clinic for all the Ontario judges. Perry Gerski (Calgary Stampede Judge) and Lane Peterson both did a superb job ensuring fair play for all.

Stuart Pletcher and Jim Fusee supplied a new pen of bucking horses and they did not disappoint. The judges were sharp as they picked up 3 missed mark outs the first show. Miles Houghston (Michigan) won the Saddle Bronc while Matt Ford won the Bareback. In Steer Wrestling, Matt Mousseau put on a show with a winning run with Charlie Griffen close behind in second spot. Barrels and Pole Bending saw Joanne Fisher win while Jr. Barrels had Colby Robertson see her First vic- tory. In Break a Way Roping, Scott McMahon won throwing a loop in 2.9 seconds. This was his first Dodge Rodeo. Jarod Nooren came home from Oklahoma where he is on a University rodeo scholarship to win the Tie Down roping. The Bulls won the weekend putting on a show and we are looking for a cowboy that can ride this pen. Caleb Griffen won the Jr. Bulls. The Race is on to the Mississauga Championships and Regina Agribi- tion.

Tim Culbert and Francis St. Laurent decided 7 months ago they wanted to raise money for the local hospital while bringing something of value to the com- munity. Tim, who is actively involved with the Dodge Rodeo approached the Cowboys and promised them a great play ground for the sport, and a Dodge Rodeo date was scheduled for Meaford for the first time. For the past 6 months, they have worked very hard to gain the support of the town of Meaford and want to thank every business and individual that helped out. Tim and Francis are to be commended for their tremendous efforts intro- ducing rodeo to Meaford, bringing this great sport and a fun event to town as a community fund raiser. Tim real- izes that putting on the rodeo has taken a great deal of his time and says that as soon as he cleans up he will be back to his Meaford area construction and excavating company.

With the New Team Roping format, the most con- sistent ropers were rewarded with George and Vivian having two great times to win. This new format saw more catches and times than at last years rodeo for the fans as ropers had the same partners. The Bulls were ‘Spanky’ to say the least. Phones were ringing as Cow-

Despite almost 4 inches of heavy rain, the cow- boys/girls competed in true cowboy fashion. Tim worked feverishly through the night to ensure the arena was in the best possible shape. Bringing in over 300 tons of sand, dirt and gravel in torrential rains, the cowboys had to have their rigs towed into and out of the field. With all this and rain all saturday morning , the crowds still came out and filled the stands both days. The cowboys and cowgirls put on a great show starting with 6 bronc riders lighting up the rain soaked crowd. Mike Ford of Michigan had the winning bare- back ride. Peter Hallman won the Saddle bronc and Johny Shore took honours in the Bull Riding. Jr. Bulls saw a 3 way tie to Scott McMahon, Caleb Grirrin and James Sullivan. Barrels saw Stephanie Leyzac winning ladies and Carson Robertson taking Jr. Barrels. Casey Robertson won Pole bending with Stephanie Leyzac coming 2nd. In roping, Brad Rod and Brad Bowie won team roping while Trevor Dunk won Tie down and Jessy Mathieu taking the Break a Way title. Charlie Griffen continued to pad his lead winning Steer Wrestling.
