Pub group signs up to Farnborough scheme

Developer St Modwen has

announced it has signed up pub operator JD Wetherspoon as part of a multi-million pound town centre scheme in Farnborough, Hampshire. The pub group, which operates more than 700 properties across the UK, has secured an agreement with St Modwen to occupy a 6,000sq ft (557sq m) unit as part of the first phase of the regeneration project. Wetherspoon has now joined supermarket chain Sainsbury's and budget hotel operator Travelodge in Farnborough town centre.

NCC backs Silverstone investment plans

Northamptonshire County

Council (NCC) has approved plans in principle to invest £1.2m in Silverstone motor racing circuit, near Towcester, over the next four years. The council's cabinet resolved to provide £300,000 each year up to 2014-15 to support the venue in its economic development proposals. Councillors also backed plans to loan Silverstone Estates £10m towards a major revamp of the circuit, which will host the British Formula One Grand Prix until 2027.

Public consultation for IoM marina plans

A public consultation into

plans for the future development of Port St Mary Harbour, Isle of Man (IoM), has been held by the Department of Infrastructure. Among the proposals for the Port St Mary Harbour Improvement Scheme is a 450-berth marina and improved onshore facilities – including retail and catering units. Local residents have been given the chance to comment on plans to improve existing facilities and the practicalities of building the new marina.

Memorandum of understanding aims to help London and Glasgow pool resources

A new agreement designed to maximise the benefits of hosting major sporting events has been secured by the organisers of the London Olympics and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Organisers of the London

2012 and Glasgow 2014 Games have agreed the memorandum of understanding (MoU), which outlines how both can benefit from the events. It is only the second time

that a country has hosted both the Olympic and Common- wealth Games within two years of each other; Canada being the first when it hosted the 1976 Olympics and the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Benefits outlined by the MoU

include the use of volunteers in Games time; the provision of experience for Glasgow 2014 staff at the London Games; and

888 unveils new Italian venture

Online gaming group 888 Holdings has announced plans to enter the Italian market after securing a new joint venture with television production company Endemol Italy. The move will see a

new gaming offering launched to benefit from Endemol's existing brands within the Italian market,

which include Big Brother and Deal or No Deal.

Italian licence, the venture is planning to launch once Italy's gaming authority confirms regulations for the provision of casino games later this year.

Coe added: "Scotland's double opportunity to reap benefits from hosting two of the world's largest sporting events is boosted with agreement and the transfer of knowledge that lies at its heart."

Cineworld set for Wembley Park

UK cinema operator Cineworld Group has secured an agree- ment with property group Quintain Estates and Develop- ment for a multi-screen venue at Wembley City, London. Cineworld, which operates

nearly 80 sites in the UK and Ireland, has agreed a 25-year lease for a nine-screen cinema adjacent to Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena. Capable of accommodating

1,800 people in total, the new cinema is due to open in 2013 as part of the 280,000sq ft (26,013sq m) Wembley City leisure and retail hub. Cineworld chief executive officer Steve Wiener said:

"Wembley is a vibrant develop- ment and the Cineworld cinema will be the first in the area for thirty years." Construction work is due to

get underway in 2013, while Quintain is already in discus- sions with prospective restau- rant operators for a space adjacent to the cinema.
