PROFILE

Who’s who: Liron Warhaftig This month: LottoDay’s Operations Director

How did you first get involved with the gaming industry? About 10 years ago, I relocated to Gibraltar to start my career as an outbound sales person for Victor Chandler (Now called BetVictor) with a base salary of £12k which looked to me like a lot of money back then.

optimisation… managing the sales and support teams, risk, finance, analytics… you name it, I do it!

What have been the biggest industry changes you’ve seen in your time? Rise and fall of online poker; regulation; the understanding of big data and how it could be used to optimise marketing.

Favourite…

Movie: Godfather trilogy Music: Radiohead Pastime: Playing with my kids Book: The Richest Man in Babylon Pizza topping: sweetcorn and onion of course!

What attracted you to this sector? I had never been to a casino or played poker before starting to work in this sector; I’m not even a big sports fan. I was excited about working in the online industry from the e-commerce side more than anything else.

What are the biggest positive factors for your sector right now? The fact that mobile is on a constant growth; technology becomes better and faster each day, and more accessible. The awareness to e-commerce is very common.

And what are the obstacles to growth? Payment issues. Banks are still not differentiating between gambling and entertainment; online lottery is still considered as gambling, although should it is clearly an e-commerce product.

What were you doing prior to the gaming industry? I was managing a private teaching center.

What are you responsible for in your current position? Everything: CRM, product road map… from designing mock-ups to working with the developers on the front and back end work…

Looking at your entire career, what do you think was your smartest move? Learning how to fall in love with my work, whatever that may be.

And dumbest one? Selling my Betfair shares.

Where do you hope you’ll be, professionally, in ten years’ time? Running a profitable e-commerce business.

If you’d never embarked on this career, what other line of work would you have liked to pursue? I really have no clue, but it wouldn’t have been as much fun.
