Billed as “the Polynesian island in the South Pacific”, Lotte Water Park opened this May in Gimhae, Busan, attracting impressive attendance figures from the start

Shopping and leisure

The Lotte Group’s flagship property remains Lotte World in Seoul, about four hours north of Lotte World Water Park in Busan. This major recreation complex comprises the world’s largest indoor theme park (as recognised by Guinness World Records), an outdoor amusement area, an artificial island, shopping malls, a luxury hotel, Korean folk museum, sports facilities, movie theatres and more. Opened on 12 July 1989, it receives over 8 million visitors a year and remains one of Asia’s busiest attractions. Just as at Lotte World, visitors to Lotte Water Park can mix shopping with leisure by visiting the nearby Lotte Premium Outlet.

Making waves in South Korea

he latest leisure project from the Lotte Group, the long-awaited 120,000 square-metre waterpark is the equivalent of 17 soccer fields and filled with impressive waterslides and attractions from WhiteWater, in addition to Korea’s largest outdoor and indoor wave pools (135m and 35m in width respectively). WhiteWater’s contribution includes its largest ever AquaPlay interactive play structure in the country (2,000 sq m) and its first ever indoor Rattler and favourites like a Tornado and Abyss slide.

Additional facilities include a Tiki Island spa, four

cabana villages, restaurants, cafes and gift shops. As well as Lotte’s popular Lotte and Lorry characters, guests can meet a brand new mascot created especially for the waterpark, Lokky the wooden doll. Daily attendance of up to 18,000 guests per day had been recorded, placing the park on course for a placing in the worldwide top waterpark rankings. Lotte Water Park will remain open year-round. A second and a third phase expansion are already confirmed, and WhiteWater is on board for both.
