SENSORS & INSTRUMENTATION SHOW EXPANDS D

atateam Business Media, organiser of the annual Sensors

& Instrumentation show, is pleased to announce that the 2014 exhibition will be the largest so far. Although there are still six months to go before the event takes place, enquiries are up and stand sales are already much higher than this time last year. Kathryn Ambrose, show organiser,

commented: “Due to unprecedented demand, the Sensors & Instrumentation show has expanded! As a direct result of the success of the 2013 event, we have seen the

demand for sales outstrip supply, and have therefore increased the floor space to accommodate more stands.” The 2013 event was praised by

exhibitors and visitors alike, with comments ranging from ‘A great show’ to ‘A truly exception exhibition’; and this has resulted in previous exhibitors re-booking plus brand new exhibitors. “This year we have seen previous

exhibitors rebook with larger stands. In addition, a number of new companies will be exhibiting, having visited during the 2013 event and been so impressed with the quality

and quantity of both visitors and exhibitors,” explained Ambrose. Sensors & Instrumentation 2014

will be co-located with Machine Building, Micro, Nano, MEMS, and TCT Live, with Interplas and PPMA taking place at the same time. “The co-location, which offers

six shows under one roof, will appeal to visitors and no doubt will increase footfall to the event considerably,” added Ambrose. As the only dedicated national

sensors & instrumentation show, the exhibition will be taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, on 30th

September and 1st October 2014. For more information or to book a

stand, please visit the Sensors & Instrumentation website or contact Kathryn Ambrose on: E: kambrose@datateam.co.uk T: 01622 699129 www.sensorsandinstrumentation.co.uk

APPRENTICESHIP PARTNERSHIP FOR THE NORTH WEST

To help tackle the region’s engineering skills shortage, Siemens and Trafford College have partnered to launch a skills and apprenticeship partnership that will see students from across the North West train at the new Centre for Science and Technology. This has received over £15m of new investment and is equipped with a Siemens lab featuring the company’s PLCs to

help young people learn about factory automation. The partnership is part of the

Employer Ownership of Skills Pilot, which seeks to help employers train young people whilst encouraging further education. The company will be working with its solution provider partners in the area of apprenticeship provision to generate the appropriate skills for the sector

EPLAN INTRODUCES EEC ONE SOFTWARE

W

elcome to the ‘new

look’ Design Solutions! Having had the ‘old’ magazine design for a number of years, it was starting to look a little tired and out-dated. So, we took the decision to refresh how the entire ConnectingIndustry portfolio of titles look – and this is the result. The page layouts, fonts and

colours have been changed to create a more modern and up-to-date design which looks cleaner and tidier. It’s possible that some small tweaks may happen over the coming months, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy the first issue!

The new version of EPLAN Engineering Centre One (EEC One) has been launched. This, the company explains, is the first step towards automated circuit diagram generation for electrical and fluid engineering.

and will claim assistance for learners for the management of the scheme, college and specialised technical training course costs. Juergen Maier, Siemens Industry

managing director, said: “We are very proud to be playing such a leading role in boosting the skills of engineering apprentices across the North West.” www.siemens.co.uk/drives

The software provides

internationally operating companies with a professional solution to facilitate the automatic creation of circuit diagrams. Pre-defined standards such as circuit board elements or value sets are automatically collated into a wiring diagram based on Excel, thus simplifying machine design. www.eplan.co.uk

MATERIALS INNOVATION CONFERENCE

The PD+I conference programme will be taking place on 22-23rd May at London’s Guoman Tower hotel. This will tackle today’s market, which has seen green shoots of recovery offer more scope and appetite for innovation, but in a faster, leaner and more agile way to accommodate resources. The overriding theme of PD+I 2014 reflects this, with the title ‘Making stuff happen’. In line with this, there will be a

seminar dedicated to the materials and processes for designers, entitled CMF: Materials Innovation. This

/ DESIGNSOLUTIONS

session will focus on new materials and processes, and designers and materials experts will share their stories on how recent materials innovations are paving the way to produce stuff in faster, better or even cheaper ways. Speakers are Monica Dalla Riva, european design lab manager, 3M; Peter Booth, founder, Tin Horse; and Marcel Dartee, global marketing director sustainable solutions & biomaterials, PolyOne. Aerotech has relocated its UK subsidiary to a facility in Ramsdell near Tadley in Hampshire. With additional office and logistics space as well as considerably more room for customer demonstration, training and conferencing, the well-equipped 500m2

building will allow the

company to build upon its position as a motion system supplier to the UK and Europe. Mark Botos, Aerotech’s CEO, said:

“The new facility, with its modern training and demonstration capability, will help to further our ability to advance the markets we serve by supporting OEMs and end users in industrial, governmental and educational markets worldwide.” www.aerotech.com

Morgan Advanced Materials has created a Global Materials Centre of Excellence in Stourport, Worcestershire, for structural ceramics materials and applications. Mark Robertshaw, CEO, said:

“The Global Centre of Excellence will take the lead on innovation in new formulations and processes, serve as a hub for academic collaboration on structural ceramics with key university faculties worldwide, and act as a focal point for R&D with raw material suppliers. It will allow Morgan to focus on both idea generation and execution in one integrated facility, with the ultimate aim of maximising the performance of our customers’ applications and processes.” www.morganadvancedmaterials.com
