Overseas Trade Shows - Earlier dates for GDS and Micam

Like for the GDS in Düsseldorf, theMicam (as the Milan trade show is now

called), will take place earlier than usual, starting in the second half of 2014. The Italian shoe industry federation, which recently changed its name to Assocalzaturifici, announced this week the following new schedule:

TheMicam March 2 to March 5, 2014 (like before) Aug 31 to Sept. 3, 2014 (new) Feb 15 to Feb. 18, 2015 (new)

GDS Messe Düsseldorf announced a few weeks ago its decision to stage the

GDS earlier, starting in the second half of 2014. Here are the corresponding dates of the Düsseldorf show:

March 12 to 14, 2014 (like before) July 30 to Aug. 1, 2014 (new) Feb 4 to 6, 2015 (new)

The two major European shoe shows will thus alternate with a reasonable

interval like before. Exhibitors and buyers will be invited to Milan before Düsseldorf in the early part of the year for the autumn/winter collections, and to Düsseldorf before Milan for the spring/summer collections. TheMicam will continue to run from Sunday to Wednesday.

Earlier dates will also be announced for the other shows organized by

Assocalzaturifici in Shanghai, Moscow and Munich. Like the GDS, theMicam plans to unveil a new exhibition format, starting with the new dates of the Milan fair.

In a public statement, Cleto Sagripanti, president of theMicam and

Assocalzaturifici, said the decision to bring dates forward was made after talking to the companies and their buyers, "in response to the needs of the market and business schedules and to make the most of the event in the international trade fair calendar."

TheMicam, Milan September 15 – 18th 2013 Meanwhile, more than 1,600 exhibitors - a little more than in previous editions – will show their collections in a total area of more than 68,000 square metres at theMicam in Milan this month from September 15th – 18th 2013. The fair will feature a new “Foot Rocker” initiative, in collaboration with Rolling Stone, the famous rock music magazine. Video interviews and testimonies will be held in Hall 10 on the younger fashion styles and the most underground street brands showing the fair in Milan. Young university students and training agencies in the fashion and footwear sectors will be asked to participate in a contest for the “Foot Rocker; the rebel and soul of theMicam”. The winner will receive a six-month internship at a footwear company as part of the new Foot Rocker Award.

general decline in profit, according to report in The China Daily. Zheng Shilli, general manager of Wenzhou Golden Emperor Shoes in the Zhejiang province, told the newspaper that overseas orders have continued to diminish as a consequence of lower consider demand especially in Europe, as most European countries struggle to recover from the economic crisis. News and analysts’ reports indicate a decline in the orders for leather shoes by about 30 per cent in May compared with the same period two years ago, while China’s manufacturing production dropped to a nine month-low in June, suggesting an accelerated contracting of the country’s manufacturing sector, economists say.

Toms hits ten million donated pairs Toms has been donating one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair

sold since the company’s creation, in 2006. The Californian-based shoe company has announced that it has now reached the landmark achievement of 10 million pairs given away to children in need around the world under its “One for One” programme, entering a new phase that Tom’s founder Blake Myoskie calls “One for One 2.0”. Toms expects to place another 10 million pairs on children in need in the next 24 months, with the help of more than 75 “Giving Partners”. The company currently makes the shoes it donates in Ethiopia, Kenya,

Argentina and China and within two years, it expect to produce one-third of them in the regions where they are donated, in a wider development scheme providing jobs where they are needed. The company is also testing production in India and is looking to expand manufacturing in Africa and other regions. In Haiti, where the company is in partnership with local artists to create a line of hand-painted shoes, Toms is in its early stages of local shoe production.
