Golden Service Awards 2013
In partnershipwith:
ect, designed to recognise companies that have taken significant steps to provide a healthier, safer andmore hygienic office environment to help reduce sickness and increase employee wellbeing. In all there are 22 categories, most of themfamiliar to the industry, designed to give a chance to every type of cleaning andmaintenance contract, whether the contractor is big or small. Entries are on the basis of a detailed sub-
mission which goes for judging by the awards committee, made up of profession- als fromeverymajor industry association. They are free to select asmany finalists as they deemnecessary on the basis of the number and quality of the entries. The fi- nalists for the Golden Service Awards 2013 will be featured in the July 2013 issue of Cleaning &Maintenancemagazine. The next part of the judging process is the
site visits which take place in June and July. The British Institute of Cleaning Sci- ence appoints three expert judges who will visit each of the nominated premises. Detailed criteria are laid down, with varia- tions to suit the categories. Judges are asked to look in detail at operational proce- dures, health and safety, personnel, cus- tomer satisfactionmanagement, and training and skillsmanagement. During the site visits the judges will com-
plete a detailed assessment form. They’ll also interview the client and get feedback on how themost important person in the process views the job they’re getting done. For all the entrants it’s a great chance to
benchmark against the industry’s leaders. “It’s really useful for our staff tomeasure
their performance against the rest of the industry,” said Ann O’Hanlon, managing di- rector of Dublin based Derrycourt Company Ltd, an organisation which has an enviable record of success in the Golden Service Awards. In the 2011 programme, Der- rycourt won the Best Cleaned Premises - Individual Retail Unit for its work at Avoca Kilmacanogue, flagship store of Avoca
Handweavers, set in the former Jameson Whiskey Distillery, as well as Best Cleaned Premises - Public Sector Buildings section for the IrishMuseumofModern Art, one of the Ireland’s flagships and an internation- ally recognised leadingmodern art institu- tion. In the 2009 Golden Service Awards, Der-
rycourt was the winner in the Healthcare section, for its work at Dublin’s Children’s University Hospital. “It’s fantastic encouragement for our
staff,” said Ann O’Hanlon. “Cleaning is often an unrecognised, behind the scenes job, one which people take for granted until it’s done badly. I’mvery pleased that some of the hard work and dedication put in by Derrycourt employees has been recognised by these awards.” The awards are very useful for a company
that wants the world to know it’s a world beater. “It’s tremendously useful to have in- dependent expert recognition of the stan- dards we are achieving,” continued O’Hanlon. “It’s not just us saying that we’re doing a great job. That’s something that carries great weight with current and po- tential customers.” Stephen Kerr continued: “We believe that
the process of entering the Golden Service Awards and going through judging by the industry’s top experts is well worthwhile for every entrant. You get an entirely unbiased view which can be extremely helpful in highlighting areas for improvement as well as telling you where you are doing particu- larly well. For those companies that suc- ceed in the awards, it’s also a great marketing tool. It gives you something to show how well you can do. The winners in the Kimberly-Clark Professional Golden Service Awards are the best in the indus- try.” That will be true again this year. “We’ve
got some great entries for 2013,” con- cluded Kerr. “The Golden Service Awards will bring well earned recognition for some great work.”
