Outline on Algerian tour of independence

A SPECIALLY commissioned musical production celebrating Algeria’s 50th anniversary of independence toured the country with an Outline GTO system and Butterfly enclosures. Algerian president Abdelaziz
Bouteflika and the entire government body attended the show on opening night. It was produced by the Algerian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of the Mujahidin, and written, composed and choreographed by Lebanon’s internationally renowned Caracalla Dance Theatre (CDT). It was CDT’s director Ivan
Caracalla who suggested to the Ministry of Culture that Outline would be able to supply the required sound reinforcement: “When they saw the company’s track record, high-profile applications by top international rental companies and the adaptability ensured by

its wide range of systems, they were convinced.” After the tour, Caracalla was enthusiastic about the results: “We were very happy with the GTO and the products from Outline on this huge prestigious event, which also offered local technicians, under the watchful eye of veteran sound engineer and technician Carlo Gennaro, the possibility of discovering the GTO and the various possibilities Outline systems offer – this will stand them in good stead for the numerous events staged by the Ministry of Culture’s technical department every year.”n

Si Performer a-lights for first Baltic sale

LATVIA’S UNIVERSAL Baltic Sound (UBS) has purchased the first Soundcraft Si Performer in the Baltic region. The hire company was originally looking to invest in the Si Compact 24; Soundcraft’s Latvian distributor Audio AE invited UBS to test the console on the recent tour of top local rock act Brainstorm, as the FOH mixing console for support band The Sound Poets. “The tour was a great test
for a new product and we were able to run both FOH and
monitors from a single Si24,” said USB’s senior sound engineer Maris Liepa. However, when the hybrid audio/lighting desk, based on the same platform, was announced in August, UBS took notice. “When we learnt of the
Performer 3, we were particularly impressed with the bigger channel count, the two option slots, which allow I/O expansion… and the more attractive appearance, and so we didn’t hesitate to place the order for this instead,” he concludes. n

JESSIE WARE’S FOH engineer and tour manager, Olly Long, has opted for an AKG D7 capsule in combination with a DMS700 wireless system for the Mercury Music Prize nominee’s vocal mic. “It offers so much clarity and
definition, particularly in the upper-mid register,” Long said. The British singer-songwriter has just completed her first headline tour of the UK and Ireland, playing to 300-400- capacity clubs promoting her new album, Devotion.
“The mic worked fantastically in these small venues but I also wanted to see how it would translate to the 1,500-capacity Electric in Brixton; since the mic is quite directional, the results were equally outstanding,” added Long.n
