welcome EDITOR’S COMMENT A NEW YEAR, and a new us!
In early December, NewBay Media acquired Intent Media (publisher of PSNEurope) in order to create a new European operation.
“On the day of the announcement, the PSN editor and I spoke as might
children waking up on Christmas morning”
This deal between NewBay (which was formed in 2006 by the sale of UBM’s US-based CMP Entertainment Media division) and Intent (which purchased PSNEuropeand several other brands from UBM in July 2010) brings a number of sister titles back under one roof. These include Pro Sound News and PSNEurope; Systems Contractor Newsand Installation; and TV Technologyand TVBEurope. If you wish, you can read the full corporate release at http://bit.ly/11EttAh. But I think, more importantly, I should tell you how I feel about the situation. And that is: fantastic!
I abhor any press release quote that uses the phrase “excited”, but I am genuinely thrilled and, yes, really excited to be working alongside the US titles once again. After six years, it’s a homecoming. On the day of the announcement, I called PSNeditor Frank Wells in the US and we spoke as might children waking up on Christmas morning. NAMM will give us the first opportunity to hook up in person since the news and I can’t wait to get on that plane.
On a different note, 1 January brings changes in the frequency spectrum too, as access to Channels 61-69 for radio mic/wireless IEM users ceases completely. Installer/retailer EAV Pro Audio reckons 75% of users still don’t know this. Check with the tool on the company’s site to see if you are affected: e-av.co.uk. Dave Robinson
