studionews UNITED KINGDOM AKG galore for Gavin Harrison By Erica Basnicki
RENOWNED BRITISH drummer Gavin Harrison, best known for playing with the progressive rock band Porcupine
Tree, has invested in a large set of AKG microphones for his home studio.
“I used C414s on the last
Porcupine Tree studio album at AIR studios when the engineer
suggested using them on the toms. I had never tried that before – but I was blown away by the clarity and punch that the C414s captured. They sound very even across my five toms,” he said. In addition to his new C414s, Harrison has purchased a pair of factory matched C12VR tube microphones which he describes as “creamy heaven”. For the bass drum Harrison is using AKG’s new ‘vintage’ D12VR kick mic. “It’s only been in the past 15
years – since I’ve had my own home studio – that I’ve really been paying attention to the kind of mics that made my drums sound great,” concluded Harrison. “AKGs were always there.”n www.gavharrison.comwww.soundtech.co.uk
