LIFE WITH LILLIAN MY HOME, MY STYLE Photographs by Jeannie Yue
Meaningful corners, lots of old and new photographs that show the family together and happy, celebrating special occasions and with touches of Buddha’s presence all over the home – that’s basically my style, so the ambience blends good feng shui with my faith – making us all feel comfortable. The good feng shui brings loads of good friends visiting me frequently creating joyous yang energy, while the presence of holy objects generates copious amounts of blessings for my children and grandchildren. The theme here is obviously family and friendships, comfort and good feng shui – but also to create spaces that are pleasing to the eye and easy to live in. This is my home, my style. Let me share some of my ideas with you through this photo essay on some of the favourite corners and walls of my home.
MY HUSBAND THINKS HE IS BUDDHA! Tis is a private joke between my husband and I, which I shall share with you. We took this picture of him sitting in the lotus posture (which he does perfectly even now) in an ancient shrine in one of the Stupa complexes in Bagan in Burma. One day, I dreamt Wan Jin was in reality a Buddha, and I made the mistake of telling him about my dream… as he has reminded me of it ever since! I cannot remember the number of times he has repeated this story to our friends, “now my wife has to prostrate to me” he says with great relish! My dream seems to have transformed into a nightmare!
So
LAMPSHADE casts a glow over the Kuan Yin statue given to me by one of my Gurus. She is surrounded by wishfulfilling jewels that contain the precious celestial mantra that brings loads of blessings and many good things.
I put this picture next to a painting of me dressed as Empress Catherine of Russia! Gotta have balance and humour in the home. By the way, it is a great conversation piece.
