The next development was to automate comparisons. VISIONx offers an automated CAD comparison to data, speeding up the inspection process and, perhaps more important, making the results operator- independent. “This required the development of two tools: the CAD Auto-Align tool and the CAD Auto Pass/Fail tool,” explains Patrick Beauchemin, president of VISIONx. “The first automatically aligns the CAD overlay to the part and the second takes the resulting aligned CAD file and automatically produces a PASS/FAIL result as well as all of the numerical results that users are looking for.” These include data such as maximum deviation from nominal, among others. “The system is intended primarily for shop floor use. So it’s the people making the parts that use the system to also check the parts,” stresses Beauchemin.
