The 2200 Li-Po battery is in place (above left), with the ESC mounted on the inside. The ESC (above right) is mounted on the right side. There’s plenty of room inside for the battery, which is held in place with hook and loop fasteners. The landing gear is held in place with landing gear straps. The battery hatch

(below left) is made of 1⁄8-inch lite ply and held in place with a magnet in the rear and a lite ply tab in front. The wheels are DuBro lite flite wheels. Close up of the 400 brushless motor (below right). The cowl is held in place with #2 screws, screwed to hardwood blocks inside the cowl.

Covering I’m sure everyone will cover their model

with some type of iron-on plastic film. Well, I guess I like to be different or maybe I’m just too old to change, so I covered mine with medium weight silkspan tissue and painted the model with dope. A painted-on finish looks much more realistic. After all, the real E-2 was covered with fabric and painted with dope. One real advantage of covering with silkspan is that it stays drum tight and doesn’t wrinkle or blister, and the paint can be touched up if needed. For the flight system I used a 400 brush-

less motor, with a 20-amp speed controller and a 2200 mAh, 3-cell Li-Po battery with a 7–4E prop. This setup gives plenty of power for scale type flying. Before making that all important first

flight, check everything over carefully, mak- ing sure the center of gravity is correct and everything works the way it should. I always wait for a calm day to make the first flights. An out of trim model flying in the wind can be a real handful and lead to a bad crash. On my first flights the model flew beauti-

Finished model ready for flight. The silver color scheme and red trim is scale. It’s different and easy to do. Shows up well in the air.

fully, requiring only a slight amount of down and right trim. The silver color scheme shows up well in the air and looks different. Hope you enjoy your E-2.
