TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION Touch n’ Go

hen it came to choosing a printer for integration into the Velo touch screen system, it needed to match the standards that were being set by the rest of the restaurant. Expectations were high when the developers of the touch screen ordering system contacted Star Micronics for their advice. Passing this project onto one of the UK’s leading Kiosk printing specialists, DED rose to the challenge by suggesting the Star Micronics TUP592 as the printer for the job. the TUP592 brought a lot of Nghi Nguyen,

founder of Velo

commented “We required a printer that was fast, reliable, could hold large paper rolls, had the capability to be integrated with our custom Kiosk software and could print custom designed receipts. The TUP592 ticked all these boxes.” Options on the TUP500 include a flashing paper exit guide/snout which flashes green to direct customers where to remove their receipt/ticket from and flashes red when the paper roll has run out.

o meet the requirements of Regulation 534.2.6: Where SPDs are installed downstream of the RCD, the RCD must be capable of withstanding a surge current peak of at least 3 kA to reduce the risk of power supply interruption. To meet the requirements of this regulation, Doepke manufacture a special RCCB “Type KV” available on 2 or 4 pole units, designed to withstand up to 3 kA (8/20 µS). These units are required where a selective “Type S” RCCB would not meet the protection requirements of the installation. Doepke offer full technical and commercial support locally

in U.K. and have a reputation as a world specialist in residual current protection, with a proven high quality RCD product offer - 4000 variations designed and manufactured in Germany.

Riegens Supply Energy Savings for Enterprise A

SPD installation in conjunction with RCDs? T

n energy saving lighting scheme supplied by Riegens has been used at Enterprise Rent-a-car offices as a pilot scheme in the North West

of England. The scheme has been so successful that the company have chosen the system for retro fit in existing branches as well as using in any new build developments within the NW region. The original lighting installation at the three northern offices utilised mainly 1200mm x 600mm louvered recessed fittings with 4 x 36W lamps which were expensive to run. Following energy saving surveys at the three sites, Riegens recessed Capro fittings 600mm x 600mm 1 x 40w lamp were chosen to deliver the required lighting solution and reduce energy by 50-60%. Capro is a range of luminaires that provide excellent direct/indirect illumination, with a design that provides a perfect integration between the ceiling and the luminaire. Easy to maintain, the range is available with a double parabolic louvre or perforated defuser and a choice of 28W, 40W, 54W and 55W lamp options.

Transducers for sea floor valve control

ransducers embodied in valves used for controlling oil flow in undersea pipelines have been developed by RDP Electronics Ltd to operate with high accuracy and high reliability. RDP’s LVDTs are supplied to several valve manufacturers for use with valves controlling the flow of oil from pipe networks on the bottom of the sea, close to the well head. The transducers are usually sealed within the valve and are required to withstand very high pressures of up to 5000 psi. One construction option is to ventilate the transducer, allowing the oil to flow freely through the transducer, providing fluids are non-conductive and non-corrosive. Ventilated LVDT transducers are used in conjunction with sealed amplifiers and are also immersed in the oil. Alternatively sealed transducers can be provided that are manufactured with a fully welded construction.
