Products Batteries & Chargers Durability in semi-traction applications
Designed for use in electric vehicles, materials handling equipment, access platforms and floor cleaners, the new Pro-Spec range of semi-traction batteries from Yuasa Battery Sales (UK), feature advanced charge technology to deliver extra power, higher reliability and pro- longed service life. The Pro-Spec range includes plate bar- rier prevention and separator systems which minimise self discharge and max- imise both the out of use storage period and the number of recharge cycles - yielding more power and reliability while prolonging the battery’s service life. Vibration resistant and maintenance-free, the new batteries are available in eight models - four 6V, three 8V and one 12V. Three terminal styles are available, encom-
passing embedded (ET), dual fit (DT), and standard terminal (ST) types. The four 6V batteries feature 20 hour rate capacities of 210, 225, 240 and 260Ah while the 8V models offer 170, 190 and 240Ah. The 12V model’s 20 hour rate capacity is 150Ah. Technical features include a PP resin moulded case and lid for reduced weight and improved shock and acid resistance, special lead alloy cast terminals with spe- cial plating to minimise heat generation and electrical resistance, and to maximise vibra- tion resistance, plus an engineering struc- ture cap to vent gas out and allow easy refill- ing should maintenance be required. The batteries feature separators manufac-
tured from porous rubber to resist acid cor- rosion while offering lower electrical resis- tance, and cells feature micro-fibre glass mat to prevent active material shedding. Battery plates are fabricated from material with negatives 99.9% pure lead combined with positive corrosion resistant grids both featuring hard paste with specific additives. Yuasa Pro-Spec batteries are designed for use with intelligent charging systems able to provide constant-current/constant- voltage controlled charge profiles. Yuasa Battery Sales (UK)

Enter 217 Battery packs for underwater use
Universities, research insti- tutes and oceanographic survey operations often use custom engineered battery packs to power equipment to be used underwater.
The harsh environment, which can include extreme tem- peratures and conditions, means that these packs need to be robust and have a long lifetime. Cell Pack Solutions design and build battery packs for underwater applications using Tadiran lithium cells built into different configurations, with specific design considerations to enable them to be installed into the equipment.
Lithium cells are particularly well suited for tough marine environments. The particular characteristics of lithium batter- ies, especially lithium thionyl chloride manufactured by Tadiran, means the battery pack will be more suitable than other lower powered battery chemistries such as alkaline. The benefits of lithium batter- ies include high and stable volt-
age, high capacity, wide operat- ing temperature range and up to ten years of shelf life. This allows Cell Pack Solutions to build bat- tery packs to the wide variety of specifications they receive from oceanographic customers. The company works closely with industrial battery manufacturers and will select the best solution for a user’s application and inte- grate that into the design. In addition, Cell Pack Solutions will also receive all battery packs back for recycling once they are dead. Cell Pack Solutions
