or installations needing duplicate equipment sets, Finder has introduced a flexible multi-function priority change relay, providing convenient control of main and secondary systems. The 72.42 relay has been designed to alternate the duty of two sets of equipment to ensure even wear over time. The relay can be configured to alternate the output duty either on successive applications of the supply voltage or via an independent input control signal.

How installers can benefit using Starbreaker consumer units from Crabtree

nstalling Starbreaker is simple and speedy, saving valuable on site time, whilst helping the installation designer and installer meet the requirements of 17th edition regulations. This has been achieved by a design concept that means fewer interconnecting cables, providing even more space to route wiring, with provision for top and bottom wiring access. Incoming devices and RCDs are already fitted when the board is delivered, and all MCBs and RCDs are simply plugged in giving instant guaranteed connections, with Starbreaker it’s easy to plug in an additional MCB without disturbing any other MCB or the busbar, another safety feature. There is a full DIN rail to allow Starbreaker to be easily customised to support the requirements of today’s modern living with a wide selection of DIN modules, timers, bell transformers contactors and meters all of which can be fitted into any unused way.

The 72.42 relay also provides a second input enabling both outputs to be forced on in response to a peak demand or an alarm signal. To minimise any switch-on current surge, the 72.42 relay incorporates an adjustable output delay timer. Where maintenance of either equipment set is needed, the relay will ensure that only the healthy equipment set is made available.

Fluid level probe uses microwave technology to achieve accuracy with affordability

fluids. Adaptable and quick to commission, the new device is based on guided microwave technology, which means its measuring performance is not affected by the density or conductivity of the fluid, making it consistently accurate even for deposit-forming and foaming liquids. The LFP Cubic has a stainless steel probe with a maximum length of up to 2m that can be easily changed or cut to length. Commissioning is also made easier by the sensor’s ability to simulate levels even when no fluid is present. SICK has also overcome one of the traditional drawbacks of microwave technology by reducing the deadband to just 25mm, so the LFP Cubic can be used in small

vessels. The sensor’s easy-to-read display gives real-time level and status information. The analogue output is flexible, using either 4-20mA or 0-10V switchable, with two PNP outputs. Connection to fieldbus networks is straightforward via an optional module.

BS 7671 Wiring Regulations & Surge Protection A

mendment 1 of BS 7671:2008 17th Edition Wiring Regulations now includes a key new section (534) for protection against

transient overvoltages using surge protection devices (SPD’s). Overvoltages from atmospheric origin (lightning) or electrical switching events can severely effect electrical installations and connected equipment. The risks to life, buildings and electronics due to overvoltages are detailed within BS EN 62305 ‘Protection against lightning’ and can be reduced through the correct selection and installation of SPD’s in accordance with Section 534. The new regulations where published on the 1 July 2011 and came into effect on the 1 January 2012. This means that all installation designs must now comply with amendment 1.

Flexible, linear LED Lighting from Tridonic

ridonic’s new TALEXXengine STARK LLE compact linear LED modules are ideal for combining in lines to create strip lighting as an energy-efficient replacement for, or alternative to, conventional T5 or T8 fluorescent lighting. Measuring just 35mm x 270mm, up to five STARK LLE modules can be operated with just one perfectly matched TALEXXconverter. The inherent flexibility of the system, combined with terminals for fast wiring, makes them very easy to install in existing fittings and they are suitable for all optics from louvre to diffuser types. Their versatility also opens the door to create new design concepts,

combinations with STARK QLE square LED modules. Offering major energy savings, STARK LLE modules deliver a light output of 1,250 lumens per LED module (4,000K version) with an efficiency of up to 97 lm/W. And with a life of 50,000 hours they ensure significant savings in cost of ownership. The LLE modules are available in colour temperatures of 3,000K and 4,000K, with a colour rendering index (CRI) of >80 and a colour tolerance of MacAdam 4 SDCM.
