In the Center Workshop News


Last summer the Wisconsin Center for Music Education offered a variety of professional development workshops and for the first time held fully and partially sponsored workshops. J.W. Pepper, Hal Leonard, VanderCook College and MakeMusic provided access to talented presenters and materials. The center hosted presenters from across the country:


Carol Krueger – Emporia, KS Developing Independent Musicians


Paris Rutherford – Denton, TX Vocal Jazz Institute


Richard Grunow – Eastman, NY Beginning Instrumental Instruction


Julie Goldberg – Chicago, IL Guitar 1 and 2


Leigh and Mavis Kallestad – Wayzata, MN Finale 1 and 2, SmartMusic 1 and 2


Looking forward, there are again a variety of workshops already on the schedule. Smart Board workshops are scheduled January 21 and February 18. So far, the schedule for summer 2012 includes:


June 18-22: Elementary Methods Week June 25-26: Finale Notation Software, Level 1 June 27-28: Finale Notation Software, Level 2 July 9-10: Vocal Jazz Institute July 9-12: Dalcroze In-Depth July 18-19: Listening, Learning and Loving It July 23-24: SmartMusic Accompaniment Software August 6-7: Yamaha Music In Education


Workshops in the scheduling process are Guitar 1 & 2, Musical Theater,


Developing Independent Musicians (The Sequel), Introduction to Classroom Instruments (PK-8 Pedagogy), Marching Band Basics – Street Marching & Field Marching, World Drumming, PK-5 Pedagogy, Differentiated Instruction, Smart Board and RTI.

Kathy Punwar leads participants in gaining hands-on experience with curriculum and technology during a past Yahama Music In Education workshop at the center.


Participants engage in a variety of movement-based activities during a past Dalcroze workshop at the center.
