comprehensive musicianship through performance

The secret to creating myelin is slow, deep practice. How do your students and parents find out about this? YOU! This book has been a huge eye opener for me. I’m working hard to educate both my students and parents about how to practice and how our brain works to create skill in the first place.

Communicate

What is it about those iPads that make them so attractive? The answer is that they are user friendly and intuitive. Our music programs need to be the same way. Just like you, parents are busy. Make it easy

for them. Here are a few ideas:

• Communicate in many formats consistently – email, newsletters, grading programs, notes home, web sites, etc.

• Keep things simple and logical – “less is more!”

• Be organized so parents can find things and communicate with you.

Having well educated parents who be- lieve in you as an educator can go a very long way in these turbulent times. Focus on teaching in a comprehensive manner

and share your students learning. Allow parents to understand what their child is experiencing while educating them about how to build skill. Clearly, the quality and level of parent involvement directly relates to the quality of your instruction. We would love to see you at the CMP Workshop this summer in Appleton!
