and refine a vision and development plan for the Wisconsin Center for Mu- sic Education. Among the updates is an expanded section on community music. This includes the following strategy and activities:
• Serve community musicians of all ages statewide.
• Promote and support state community music groups.
• Become a networking resource center for all musicians.
• Provide a welcoming facility for the use by Wisconsin musicians.
• Provide an incubator for studio music teachers.
Given the legacy of music education in Wisconsin and present trends for music involvement by adults, we would be wise to broaden our concept of “nurtur- ing parent involvement.” Yes, we seek involvement of parents in the music edu- cation of their children and we seek their support for music in the schools. One of
the pathways to accomplishing this is to open our music activities, in school and beyond, to participation by parents and other adults. If you are already doing this, please share your stories. You can help us all to redefine the meaning of “nurturing parent involvement.” Direct participation will always be the best of all.
