The rock cycle is the process by which each rock type can be changed into another.
OCK TYPES AND THEIR FORMATION
Fig. 19 The rock cycle ACTIVITY
The rock cycle always begins with the formation of magma. Look carefully at the diagram of the rock cycle and answer the questions which follow.
1 What processes change sedimentary rock to metamorphic rock? 2 What processes change igneous rock to metamorphic rock? 3 How is sediment converted to sedimentary rock? 4 How is metamorphic rock converted to sedimentary rock? 5 How does magma change to igneous rock? 6 How is sedimentary rock changed back into sediment? 7 How is metamorphic rock converted into magma?
The rock cycle is a group of changes that can affect igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock. Magma is a hot liquid made from melted minerals that form crystals when they cool. Igneous rock forms when magma cools and mineral crystals grow. Igneous rock can form underground, where the magma cools slowly, or it can form above ground, where the lava cools quickly.
