Products Test & measurement New oscilloscopes simplify test
A new mixed signal oscilloscope platform has been launched by Tektronix. Roy Siegel, general manager, mid-range oscilloscopes, said: “With our new oscillo- scope platform we are giving engineers the analysis functionality and performance they need for many applications in one instrument, available at a low break- through price point. Our goal is to help customers save time by simplifying test.” As a result, the new MSO/DPO5000 series has many popular features, including FastAcq with a >250,000 wfm/s maximum waveform capture rate; FastFrame segmented memory acquisition; and long record length to capture long time periods at high resolution. There are also built-in tools for analysis of complex designs, and a Windows-based user interface for easy networking and intuitive operation. There are eight models – from 350MHz of analogue bandwidth and 5GS/s sample rates to 2GHz and 10GS/s; and record length ranges from 12.5M to 250M for in-depth analysis and debug. Each has four analogue channels and the MSO models also offer 16 digital channels and built-in parallel bus trigger and decode functionality. Of additional benefit, the DPO models are field upgradeable to MSO models. The oscilloscopes also have a built-in Wave Inspector search capability which can automatically look through an acquisition of up to 250Mpoints to find user-specified events and mark every occurrence for fast navigation to problem areas. Over 50 automated measurements, plus advanced waveform math, histograms, statistics and other analysis tools are available. To help troubleshoot system-level interactions in complex embedded systems, all 16 channels of the MSO5000 series are fully integrated into the system; and MagniVu ultra high resolution mode acquires up to 10,000 points at 16.5Gs/s (60.6ps resolution). Tektronix has also announced enhancements to the MSO/DPO4000B series, including support for Ethernet; and has launched the TPP1000 and TPP0500 high-bandwidth and low capacitance passive voltage probes. Two PXI Express chassis have been introduced by NI. With these, engineers can take advantage of the latest PXI Express modules and controllers with the flexibility of backward compatibility with exist- ing PXI modules.
The PXIe-1078 nine-slot chassis features 1GB/s total system
bandwidth. It accepts up to a four- slot wide embedded controller in one slot and supports up to eight peripheral PXI Express slots with five slots compatible with both PXI Express and PXI mod- ules. It also includes one more module slot than the same priced NI PXI-1042 standard eight-slot
PXI chassis. The PXIe-1071 four- slot chassis offers 3GB/s total system bandwidth. It accepts up to a four-slot wide controller in one slot, with three available for PXI Express or PXI modules. National Instruments T: 01635 523545

Compact voltage testers comply with IEC 61010
Although compact, Megger’s TPT210 and TPT220 two-pole voltage testers comply with the requirements of IEC 61010 for CAT IV 1000 V applications, making them suitable for use in any location on low voltage electrical installations. As well as checking voltages, these provide other functions including continuity testing, RCD function checking, and two-pole phase sequence indication, and have a safety feature to warn users of dangerous voltages even if the batteries in the tester are exhausted. Model TPT210 has a dual-colour LED display that provides ac and dc voltage indication from 6V to 1000V in eight steps. This
also offers audible and visual continuity checking, and a facility for carrying out simple functional checks on 30mA RCDs, RCBOs and safety breakers. The TPT220 provides similar functionality, but instead of LED indicators it has an LCD panel that displays the actual voltage present over the range 6V to 1,000V, ac or dc. The continuity/resistance function also displays the resistance of the circuit under test, and a data hold feature is provided for continuity/resistance measurements. Megger

Portable four channel ScopeMeter range
Two new II Colour ScopeMeter’s with four channels have been added to Fluke’s portable oscillo- scope range. The 190-204 has a bandwidth up to 200MHz; while the 190-104 has a bandwidth of 100MHz. These are said to be the first IEC 61010, 1000V CAT III / 600V CAT IV rated portable oscil- loscopes designed to be safely used on industrial equipment that is permanently installed on an electrical distribution system. The four isolated floating channels enable safe differential or floating measurements on multiple signals simultaneously, and viewing and measurement of waveform amplitude, shape and timing differences between sig- nals or four test points. Additional features include Connect&View triggering which enables hands- free operation. The TrendPlot recording func- tion helps uncover long-term trends and shows changes in any of the measurable parameters; and Frequency Spectrum Analysis using FFT helps identify individual frequency components contained in a signal. The ScopeRecord function allows waveform recordings to be made over up to 48 hours, and the 'Replay' function enables the user to take a closer look at any anom- aly seen flashing by on the screen.
