Nurture Lakeland

Local Charity Nurture Lakeland brings together tourism business, conservation groups and visitors to fundraise for conservation projects in Cumbria. Each leafy ‘n’

represents a business member of Nurture Lakeland who is doing their bit to protect wildlife, landscape and environment, improve access and support local communities. For more information or to join Nurture Lakeland visit www.nurturelakeland.org.

Accessibility

Keswick offers many opportunities for visitors with disabilities to enjoy all aspects of this unique county. Many accommodation providers, restaurants and attractions cater for visitors with disabilities and are more than happy to accommodate specific requirements.

National Accessible Scheme

If you have particular mobility needs, look for the following National Accessible Scheme symbols.

º• Welcome Host

Where you see the ‘Welcome Host’ symbol, you know that the staff have taken part in this nationally recognised ‘Customer Care’ programme. You can therefore be sure that the welcome

you receive, and the quality of service given, will be in the best tradition of Cumbrian hospitality.

Walkers and Cyclists N

Walkers and Cyclists are given an extra warm welcome at many accommodation establishments.

Look out for these symbols in the accommodation listings.

In these establishments you will find facilities such as:

• Wet clothes drying facilities

• Packed lunch and bottle/flask filling service (serviced accommodation only)

• Early breakfast available • Hot drinks on arrival • Information on local cycle/walking routes • Secure, covered area for bikes • Information on local cycle shops

Please check at the time of booking for specific requirements.

FAIRTRADE In and around Keswick

In and around Keswick you will find more Fairtrade available than in any other tourist centre in the country. There are over 150 guest houses, hotels, B&Bs, hostels and self catering properties, and over 50

restaurants, cafés, tea and coffee shops which provide Fairtrade products for their guests and customers. All of these are listed in a Directory, produced by Keswick and District Fair Trade Campaign, which can be found at www.fairtradekeswick.org.uk, of which hard copies are available in the Tourist Information Centre in the Moot Hall.

In this Guide all accommodation providers displaying the FT ‘flag’ offers Fairtrade tea, coffee, drinking chocolate and sugar to their guests in dining rooms and bedrooms, almost all exclusively. Some offer more, such as fruit, fruit juices and wine. All have literature available on Fairtrade.

Green Accreditation

Keswick Tourism recognises a range of green and environmental initiatives such as the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), Cumbria Business Environment Network

(CBEN), or the David Bellamy Conservation Awards for holiday parks. These schemes and accreditations show a commitment to reducing impact on the environment and managing resources more efficiently.
