A Weekend in La Jolla

Golf

A trip to La Jolla immediately conjures thoughts of Torrey Pines Golf Course and

the epic 2008 U.S. Open. And while the municipal course is one of the busiest in California and is notoriously diffi cult for non-residents to get a starting time, you can play here if you plan ahead. Starting times can be made up to 90 days in advance. On a budget? Consider twilight play where the non-resident rate is $60 for the scenic North Course and $110 on the South (U.S. Open host course). The South is justifi ably famous for its deep canyons and jaw-dropping third and fourth holes by the ocean, but the North Course is just as easy on the eyes and makes for a fun round.

Lodging:

The Grande Colonial is perfectly situated above La Jolla Cove and in the heart of La Jolla village. Built in 1913, the original white wood-framed building was the fi rst lodging facility in downtown La Jolla. The 2010 AAA Four Diamond Award winner boasts 93 rooms and suites, a swimming pool and upscale dining option in Nine-Ten Restaurant.

The San Diego area is known for having one of the best climates in the world, and LA JOLLA is seemingly at the epicenter of that resplendent weather. Sunny and mild conditions with low humidity are prevalent most of the year, with the average daily temperature hovering around 70°. The fall and in particular October might be the best time to visit with the combination of the warmest temperatures and little to no rainfall.
