CLUB NEWS
he South of England Koi Club (SEKC) has a firm member base but we are always looking to attract new members. The SEKC (affiliated to ZNA Japan) has members from far and wide such as Bristol and Norwich, as well as members in the vicinity of Titchfield, Hampshire where we hold our monthly meetings. We always have a very busy summer timetable. With arrangements for pond visits to other clubs
Be part of a great koi club T
underway and a summer of Open Garden meetings – where members open up their gardens for club meetings on a weekend – to look forward to, now is a good time to have you join the SEKC and be part of a very warm and welcoming club. We hold koi health seminars and koi appreciation evenings at our monthly meetings, often inviting guest speakers. We visit koi outlets and koi shows throughout the year, and so much more. We are currently running a Tategoi (Show and Grow) competition for Kohaku that were purchased by members in September 2009. They were photographed and measured and, in late summer 2010, we will net the Kohaku, photograph and measure them again to find out how they may have changed and grown over the past 12 months. There will be prizes for the winners. In fact this competition has been so popular that SEKC members have decided to purchase the Showa variety this summer and will run this competition alongside our current Show and Grow Kohaku. For more information on the South of England Koi Club please get in touch with Patricia on 02380 428852.
Mid Staffs Koi Keeping Society R
24th Annual Closed Show
egular readers of the Koi Community pages will remember the show report we included in the November 2009
issue (pages 71-73). This report detailed a very successful show indeed for a koi society which had some pretty big obstacles to overcome – such as the missing equipment which became apparent during the set-up! Unflustered and determined to make the show a success, the club members pulled through and put on a show to remember. They’re now looking forward to their next
show which is due to be held on Sunday August 8 at Hollybush Garden Centre. The garden centre is situated just one minute away from junction 11 off the M6 on Warstone Road, Shareshill, near Wolverhampton.
Admission for adults is £2.50 and for children under 16 years old and visitors over 60 years old it is £1.50. Programmes are 50p each and the doors open 10.00am. For more information telephone Mark Chetter (Show Chairman) on 01902 897149, mobile 07949 610274. Alternatively you can email Mark on
