to press, conflicting rumours about its fate were in over-
drive with no official word from Circo Loco themselves.
“Last year, a lot of people came expecting to go to DC10
but couldn’t,” says Joe Upton, who has been promot-
ing his own underground raves in Ibiza for the past few
years. “This year they might not take the risk. If DC10
doesn’t open there will be a lot of people who choose

Back in San Antonio, Pete Tong and his Wonderland pro-
motion have also responded to the economic downturn
by reducing their advance door prices to €25 in June and
€35 for the rest of the season, despite attracting names
like M.A.N.D.Y., Gui Boratto and Luciano to San An for
the first time.
“For a certain age group, their holiday to Ibiza is not
something they are going to give up — for clubbing
there is still nowhere else like it,” believes Pete Tong.
“But people will be looking for better value for money
this year and that’s what we’re trying to give them.”
John Davis, director of boutique tour operator Chic
Ibiza, is also confident that numbers won’t plummet
drastically but feels a shift in pricing is essential to hold
the San An market.
“I’ve seen recessions before and they still come to Ibiza,
they will always come to Ibiza,” he believes. “But people
are coming for less and less time because they can’t
afford to come for much longer.”
In response, Jon has set up budget tour operator Ad-
dictive Holidays, which focuses on lower prices, flexible
stays and negotiated payment plans.
