Reinforcement
Using Clues (Lesson 1) To provide additional help in learning the vocabulary words, write the word list from page 162 on the board. Then have students write 1 to 10 on a piece of paper. Give a clue for each vocabulary word and ask students to write the appropriate word next to the number. For exam- ple: 1. If people have bad luck, they have experienced ____________. misfortune
Afterwards, review the answers and discuss any word meanings that are unclear or confusing.
Listening for Errors (Lesson 3)
Remind students that developing their listening skills is an import- ant part of learning new vocabulary. Explain that you will say some sentences using the vocabulary words. When they hear a word used incorrectly, they should raise their hands. Tell students that they may refer to the word list on page 174 as you read. Then use the vocabu- lary words in sentences (some correctly and some incorrectly). When students identify a word used incorrectly, ask a volunteer to use it in a sentence correctly.
