Teaching Tips
• Tell students that they can use their knowledge of prefixes, roots, and context clues to figure out the meaning of many words.
• Direct the students to the chart at the top of page 167 and note the prefix and its meaning.
• Ask students to name words that start with the prefix un- Possible responses: unfriendly, uncommon and to share the meanings of these words and to use them in sentences.
• Remind students to use a dictionary if context clues and knowledge of word parts are not enough help to figure out the words meanings in this activity.
