Outstanding Contributors and Partners Recognized by SME Education Foundation


A


t a recent SME awards ceremony in Detroit, the SME Education Foundation honored longtime SME member, John Ruegg, LSME, CMfgE, with a special proclamation “Proclaiming and recognizing John Ruegg’s outstanding efforts and leadership, and expressing our appreciation for his contributions, time and talent to ensure the successful fulfi llment of the Foundation’s scholarship program.” For over 20 years, Ruegg has continually provided out- standing contributions of his time, talent and resources to the SME Education Foundation. He’s served on the Scholarship Review Committee, utilizing his talents to review hundreds of scholarship applications each year. Ruegg always willingly accepts the requests to take on additional applications for review as needed. He’s also participated annually in the face- to-face interviews of the SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship fi nalists to help ensure that the best and the brightest are rewarded for their efforts. In addition, Ruegg’s provided important and critical improvement suggestions that


have contributed to streamlining and enhancing the scholar- ship application and review process. The Foundation also recognized its 2015 SME Education Foundation Outstanding Corporate and Individual Partners that have given fi nancially, as well as provided their time and talent to further its efforts. The SME Education Foundation’s 2015 Outstanding Corporate Partner is Ford Motor


Co. and the Ford Motor Company Fund for its more than 20 years of support with cumulative charitable donations in excess of $1 million. Ford also supports the SME Education Foundation by its representation on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Kelly Burr, executive director of the Shop Rat Foundation, was named as its 2015 Outstanding Individual Partner. Burr joined the Michigan-based Shop Rat Foundation in 2011 and is cur- rently its executive director. Her responsibilities include oversight of the organization’s education programs, fundraising and ex- pansion plans. The Shop Rat Foundation has been an SME Education Foundation partner since 2008. Its Jackson Area Career Center was awarded a 2012 Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME) designation.
