30 28 LACROSSE MAGAZINE » October 2015

College lacrosse’s autumnal awakening is here — a reminder that the real season is only a few months away. So as the clocks fall back, we’re springing forward with 30 topics in 30 days.

NO. 1 CONTENDER

Since Maryland returned to dynasty mode, no team has more consistently threatened to overthrow the Terps as much as North Carolina. The Tar Heels’ triple-overtime victory over Maryland in an epic 2013 NCAA championship game is the only thing keeping the Terps from a three-peat. They had Maryland on the ropes again in the 2015 final before falling 9-8. Why does North Carolina match up so well with its former ACC foe? And how do the Tar Heels feel about their prospects in 2016? Platooning goalies seemed to backfire Memorial Day weekend. Are they ready to hand the reins exclusively to Caylee Waters, the reigning IWLCA National Goalie of the Year and U.S. teamer, behind a rebuilding defense? Waters headlines a phenomenal junior class that also includes Team USA’s Maggie Bill, top feeder Sydney Holman and top midfielder Molly Hendrick returning from injury.
