— Corey McLaughlin THEY HAVE ACCENTS
LEAVE IT TO THE BRITS TO FIND OUT IF GOATS FROM ENGLAND SOUND SEXIER. RESEARCHERS FROM QUEEN MARY UNIVERSITY OF LONDON FOUND THAT GOATS’ ACCENTS CHANGE AS THEY AGE AND MOVE INTO DIFFERENT GROUPS. THE FINDINGS CONTRADICT CLAIMS THAT MOST MAMMALS' VOICES ARE ENTIRELY GENETIC.

Florida It’s Casey Powell’s home state and home to MLL’s Launch. The Bernhardt brothers have helped put the state on the college lacrosse map. Jesse and Jake are MLL pros and the former made Team USA; younger brother Jared, in the running to make the U.S. U19 team, is deciding between following them to Maryland for lacrosse or playing football at Navy.
Ohio In June, Ohio became the
fi rst state to sanction lacrosse as a high school sport since North and South Carolina both did it in 2010.
Georgia US Lacrosse’s Georgia chapter has more than 12,000 members, the state has a bona fi de high school power in Milton (Ga.) and Atlanta will welcome a pair of pro franchises this year.
Minnesota
Since 2009, the number of high school programs in the Land of a Thousand Lakes has grown by 73 percent. That’s more than California, Georgia, Florida or Ohio. But just then why did the NLL’s Swarm leave?
California
Cali gets some help because there are just so many people living there. But also, what’s not to love about it? We’re waiting for USC to add a Division I men’s program to go with Lindsey Munday’s women’s team. The Women of Troy won the program’s fi rst NCAA tourney game last May. Remember the Riptide?
Texas
Syracuse seems to have an early jump on recruiting in the state where everything is bigger. Brandon Mullins, a former state football player of the year as a linebacker, will be a senior for the Orange this year. Sam Romano, a freshman, could be the best lacrosse player ever from the state. MLL is seeking expansion to Houston. — C.M.
