ALMA MATTERS CLASS NOTES 1960s


Ralph J. Amelio (BS ’61, MA ’64) and Dorothy V. Amelio (BA ’61) celebrated 50 years of marriage last June. Ralph, author of four books on film, has taught “Classics in Film” at the Eisenhower Library, Harwood Heights, IL, for the past five years.


William C. Dixon (BA ’68) retired in June 2014 as village manager of Arlington Heights, IL, following 21 years of service to that com- munity. Upon retirement, he was designated as a life member by the International City and County Management Association.


Margaret King (MEd ’68), PhD, is associate director of the under- graduate nursing program at Xavi- er University. Dr. King presented at AHNA conferences, wrote several publications on holistic nursing, and directed the sharing circles activity during the annual confer- ence. She also serves on AHNA’s Education Provider Committee.


Louis LaRocco (BA ’69, MSW ’75) was awarded the Ignatian Spiritu- ality Award for his volunteer work as a spiritual reflector with the Ignatian Volunteer Corps.

Law Alumni Awards Luncheon


Loyola University Chicago law alumni and friends gathered at the University Club of Chicago on October 29 to honor 2014 awardees Mark Braun (JD ’49), Medal of Excellence; Francis Wolfe, Jr. (JD ’98), Francis J. Rooney/St. Thomas More Award; Richard Cozzola (BA ’74, JD ’80), Public Service Merit Award; and Michelle Kohut (BS ’96, JD ’02), St. Robert Bellarmine Award. 1970s


Fr. Joseph M. Jackson, PhD (BS ’70, MA ’73) celebrated 40 years in the priesthood in October 2014 at St. Ignatius Church in Chicago.


Billy Beal (BA ’71) was promoted to associate vice president for Learning Resources at Meridian


Community College. He previously served as dean of Learning Resourc- es. Beal is a founding member of the Meridian Council for the Arts.


Mary F. Petruchius (BS ’74) of DeKalb, IL, a private practice lawyer in Sycamore, IL, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF), the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Associa- tion (ISBA).


Dimitri Sala (BA ’77) released his previously published book, The Stained Glass Curtain, in Spanish: La Cortina de Vitals. The book discusses the foundation of the relationship between Catholics and evangelical Protestants. The English and Spanish versions are available in print or elec- tronically from publisher Creation House (Casa Creation).


1980s


Nancy Bechtol (MED ’80), an award- winning photographer and artist documenting social justice and Chicago street artists for 30 years, premiered Free Speech & the Tran- scendent Journey of Chris Drew, Street Artist in November 2014 at Logan Theatre in Chicago.
